Whisper Audio available Monday, May 12th!

    NEW WEBSITE!
    www.whisper-audio.com

New for 2008, with a first release scheduled in March, is Whisper Audio.  Whisper Audio was founded in 2006 after drum and bass producers Outrage and Aperture were grace with the vocal presence of siren enchantress Kirsty Hawkshaw.  The collaboration was the genesis of a unique hybrid of cutting edge beats and bass, developed orchestration, and ethereal vocal arrangement...a new sound was born.  Building upon shared knowledge and individual perspective of the music industry, the three decided to join forces.  Their sole pursuit is the development and recognition of experimental music with emphasis on vocal integration.  Whisper Audio is their medium.

Side A graces us with a brilliant twist, providing a haunting rendition of Killing Joke's post-punk classic "Love Like Blood". Spooked-out drums and keys lead to dirty stepper beats, which bounce off deep subs to accentuate an already dark presence presented by the vocals. The song culminates in a fury of ghastly stabs, dirty beats, and raw bass to give the listener a feeling none other than spine-tingling.

On the flip, "Sunbathing" boasts a musical flair, and provides a bit of inspiration to the single. Running breaks compliment wistful lyrics, shining through a hopeful (albeit melancholic) accompaniment. This tune truly exemplifies the potential of vocal music within the realm of drum and bass, and holds the potential to become a beacon for the emotional side of our genre.

    Backlash 002 - OUT SOON!

    OUTRAGE PRESENTS...

    CAT NO: BLR002
    SECRET SOCIETY
A: GRIND HOUSE DUB / AA: TABLA JAM - ZEDCOPTER (SECRET SOCIETY RMX)

Backlash 002 presents us with a glimpse of the mindset of upcoming production duo Secret Society:

Side A (Grind House Dub) is a mysterious roller starting out with swirling percussion and minimal keys and giving way to growling sub bass and a gently menacing atmosphere. Spooked out snare rushes contribute to an already ghastly vibe before dropping into unique amen/sub-bass edits. This tune will undoubtedly leave your mind in a suspicious state.

Side AA is an entirely new take on the sounds of South Asia, with a hypnotic future-dub presence taking control on a remix of ZedCopter's "Tabla Jam". An initial spaced-out sitar invites a darkly intriguing arpeggio. This soon leads way to deep subs and subdued spoken word, accented by the sting of frigid stabs and Bhangra beats. This is an enigmatic approach to South Asian electronica, and we can't wait to hear more from this duo.

DJ Support: Nihal, Bobby Friction, Randall, Amit, Outrage, Modular

    BIOGRAPHY:

Secret Society (Tohm Tronic & Resonate) are two producers/djs/mcs and brothers that have been in and around the music scene for over 15 years.

Tohm Tronic (AKA The Weaver) has had over twenty record releases over the years, the majority of these with producer Modular under the name Stomp & Weaver. Some stand out tracks were The Underground/Devils Sister on Flex, Satellites & Freaks on Hardleaders along with numerous releases on their own label – LABLOGIC.  During this time TT was DJing across the country with a residency at the famous Pleasuredome and had support from some of the big players in the game, with plenty of air-play including regular "One in the Jungle" and "John Peel" spins.

During this time Resonate was coming through the ranks learning his trade and Emceeing for a lot of S & W's shows. He also worked on a couple of collaborations and released an EP on Hyper Records.

During the 2000's TT lost the hunger and desire to produce D & B due to the number of formulated and commercial tracks out there. Most gigs were lacking that dark vibe that had motivated him for so long, so he spread his wings and worked on other music projects. These spanned most forms of electronic music and eventually a fully realized Hip Hop project under the name Swampfoot. TT co-wrote and produced an EP and a sixteen track album which Resonate also rapped and worked on. Overall this project was a big success as they gigged with the likes of Blade, Skinnyman and Task Force (to name a few).

Deep down though the dark beats of yesteryear we're calling and Resonate sensed this, nagging TT to start back on the D & B vibe. Thus Secret Society was born, along with their own record label Digi-Lab. The hunger and freshness is truly back and so evident in their music. The first release (under the name Collective Intelligence) "Changes" has made big waves in the digital scene, while they have massive forthcoming releases on Backlash Records (Vinyl), J-Tek Records and Syncopathic. What this space!! The Brothers Grimm are back and here to stay.... SECRET SOCIETY!

    Backlash MP3's

The first release on Backlash MP3, sold exclusively through www.dto4music.co.uk, is by Gremlinz, Stranjah & Thought.

A:  Beware The Boy In the Corner (Gremlinz and Stranjah)
    AA: Oddball (Gremlinz and Thought)

Having just recently released the debuy vinyl 12" for Backlash, Outrage is set to keep that "back to the future" vibe going with this, the first MP3 release for Backlash!  Gremlinz and Stranjah tap into the vintage vein with "Beware The Boy In The Corner", which is far from your cookie-cutter dancefloor hooliganry that infiltrates many a dancehall.  This one is both 'Headz drenched classic jungle mania and Horesemen-bred B-Boy beats, from the unconventional progression of the hectic drums to the washes of sound that flow throught this track.  This one is for those who remember how great Jungle use to sound.  "Oddball" is a different monster entirely, with Gremlinz and Thought collaborating on a blunted, moody number, complete with that Hip-Hop bounce.  This one is all about the vibe: it establishes its groove and keeps you locked.  The tempo is such that, not unlike Amit production, this one can be placed inside a forward-thinking DnB set as well as your more cloudy Hip Hop excursions.  These beats are too cold, and this is something one should expect from future Backlash releases!

    J-Tek Records

Binging It back To Go forward

Let us introduce J-Tek, the new label from a crew consisting of Outrage (Backlash, Metalheadz, Basement Records), Digital (Function, Timeless, Metalheadz), Modular (HardLeaders, Flex, Lab Logic), Aperture (Whisper Audio, Metalheadz, Paradox Music), and the original jungle don Randall (Mac II, Metalheadz, Reinforced) which brings back the long lost jungle techno sound. Fusing classic 4/4 rhythms and syncopated funk breakbeats, J-Tek takes us to a classic age of electronic music (1992-1994) that was short-lived, but full of energy. J-Tek serves as a bridge between the ideas of the past and the engineering of the future, and the 140-150 bpm tempo provides crossover ability with other dance genres. Once again, DJs will have the ability to build sets with elements of both house and jungle, uniting the market. Mind you, this sound differs greatly from the days of old, and the J-Tek crew is aimed at employing their own identity when creating the music, deriving inspiration from Jungle, Techno, Electro, House, Acid, Hip-Hop, Dub, and Reggae – amongst other genres.

We believe there is a need for a genre which will be accessible to all reaches of electronic music, and bring back what many labels pioneered in the early 90’s only to move on to faster tempos. Already, there are some top producers and DJs on board for the project, We plan on using this support to complement a detailed marketing strategy based on an experienced collective of label owners, including events based throughout the UK.

J-Tek's first release consists of 2 tunes:

A - Falling Bombs - Outrage and Modular
AA - Living In A Basement - Modular

Side A consists of a serious jungle techno tune, consisting of blended 4/4 and amen sections marching on top of a few samples which may be very familiar to the listener. As soon as the bass drops, it will undoubtedly murder the dancefloor. The tune’s content is pertinent to this day and age, and will strike a chord with anyone who has turned on their TV in the past few years only to see war, genocide, and human rights violations.

Side AA presents a masterful approach to the jungle techno sounds, and draws on dub and techno influence. Maintaining a steady 4/4 groove over bouncing subs and ethereal atmospherics before drifting into serious rave stabs, this will definitely be one for the DJ looking to get the party going. Thanks for your time.

    BLR 001 - Full Release September 24

"Creeper" named Top Tune according to IDJ Magazine
    October 2007

    OUTRAGE
A: "CREEPER" / AA: "THE END IS OUR BEGINNING"

Outrage presents us with an enigmatic approach to dnb with Backlash 001:

"Creeper" marches us down a dark corridor towards a brooding midrange. A blend of the militant and mysterious, the combination of the steppy beats and cavernous ambience slowly settles the mind into a neurotic trance. Hypnotic tablas accent this effect and provide some drive to the brooding atmosphere, completing a tune directed at those wishing to explore the depths of their psyche.

AA - On the flip, "The End Is Our Beginning" provides us with a fresh approach to electronic music. A baroque-influenced technological beauty, it bridges the gap between loop-based and through-composed music, with the serene melodics playing off the scattered beats and steady bass. The amalgamation of such different sounds into one is nothing short of genius.

DJ Support: Goldie, Klute, Amit, Randall, Spirit, A-Sides, Friction, Digital.
